*UPDATE*

I reinstalled everything to make sure the proper files were writable before installation (don't worry, i changed them back after as well).

All files were uploaded to: forums.mysite.com/forums/
*(note that I am using a subdomain that forwards to: mysite.com/freeforums/. So from there the path would be mysite.com/freeforums/forums/)*

Now when I create a new forum, it does not create a new folder for the new forum. Before, I would make a new forum and there would be a new folder at: /forums/(newforumname)/. However, back then the folder would be empty.

I am guessing something is off with my FTP path.
My ftp address is: ftp.forums.x7web.com
(which will bring you right into mysite.com/freeforum/)
I set my FTP path as: /htdocs/freeforum/forums/
(my host uses htdocs instead of public_html, they are they same thing)

Is that path correct? What else could it be??

-----everything below is old------

Background details:
files are located at: mysite.com/for/
I set ftp path to: /for/
and ftp host to: ftp.mysite.com

I have my ftp account setup so that when you access it it takes you right to the mysite.com/for directory, so should my ftp path be just "/"?

When I created a new forum entitled "test" it created a test folder called test at mysite.com/for/test/. However, there are no files in that folder.

When i go to mysite.com/for/test/ it says:
Error 403 - Forbidden

You tried to access a document for which you don't have privileges.

Same with mysite.com/for/test/index.php (although there are no files in /test/ so shouldn't it say 404 file not found? I have permission/CHMOD for /test/ as 755)

Another wierd thing:
When I started the install it checked to make sure certain files were 777. It said "ok" next to all of them so I just moved on. However, when I got to the final page it checks to make sure you changed back to 644.

The entire list was still apparently 777, so I went in to change the files back to 644 but they already were. I refreshed and it still says I need to change them.
This worries me because it seems like my files were never 777, and therefore unwriteable even though the installer told me otherwise and did not give an error.

Please help!

PM me your ftp details and I'll login and take a look to see if your path is correct.
