500 Internal Server Error

When I try to create a new forum I get 500 Internal Server Error after about 1 - 2 minutes after clicking create forum. The strange thing is I still get the activation email and the forum seems to work OK.

Obviously on a live site this is going to get me a lot of support questions, I'm guessing there's an easy fix but can't find anything here.

Chmod the phpbb and the nbs directory to 755.

If that doesn't fix it then check your logs Wasuup, and paste the error your apache log is giving you.

Still getting this error, even with the dirs CHMOD 755. The forum is created but no confirmation email is sent and the forum needs to be manually activated in nbs admin panel. Error log below

I also get the same problem using IE or Firefox

Is your host running PHPSuExec by any chance?

Yes, PHP is runnning as a cgi. Looks like I'll have to go through all the file permissions :(

*edit: no permissions set to 777 so it should work*

Try reuploading the php files, that error makes me thing that one of them is corrupt.

Still no joy, deleted all files and database then did a complete reinstall. Still the same error. It quite annoying really as I prefer this script to the sebflipper one. Can you think of any other reason for this error Derek?

Hmm... were the php files uploaded in ASCII format? Perhaps they got uploaded in binary format instead? That sometimes causes that error as well...

That's not the problem, I always double check that when uploading

Ok, well I will look into this, it's pretty bizarre that you are getting that error. I'll let you know if I think of anything else.

moved the script to a new folder, url is now http://www.whalleypreschool.org.uk/forums/

I've set up a linux server at home and will try an install on this to see if I have the same problem. If it works then I'll probably move the script to a dedicated server

The problem is locate in .htaccess . You apache server not confinged currectly you need to see do you have enable RewriteEngine On and Followsymlink.
